Requirements

Getting quality education is a key to success and that is why we encourage commited and talented students to become part of the Gambia College.

The Registrar’s Office is responsible for admitting the right calibre of students to college. In collaboration with the various schools and the academic board, the Registrar decides on entry requirements suitable for a mid-level training institution. All candidates must meet one of these basic requirements:

Minimum Qualifications for School Of Education

Primary Teachers' Certificate (PTC)

Applicants MUST possess one of the following:

  • Minimum of two credits and two passes
  • Minimum of two (2) credits and two passes SC/ GCE ‘O’ Level

Primary Teachers' Certificate (PTC)- Islamic

Applicants MUST have:

  • Completed grade 12 at a recognised Madrassa
  • A minimum of good in their results

All applicants to the PTC Islamic must note that an entrance examination will be conducted before interview. All applicants must sit to the Entrance examination which is scheduled for 16 th July 2016. Only those meeting the cut off mark will be invited for interview


Higher Teachers' Certificate (HTC) Secondary

  • Four (4) Credits at the SC/GCE/WASSCE/'O' Level other Examinations in subjects relevant to their intended areas of study, including English Language and the two subjects of specialisation.
  • OR - Hold the Primary Teachers' Certificate and be in possession of 3 WASSCE/ GCE 'O' Level Credits in subjects relevant to their areas of study, including English Language

Grade twelve (12) students can apply but will only be interviewed when their results are out and they are within the minimum entry requirements.

All applicants wishing to specialise in French must note that they should sit to an entrance examination. The date for the entrance examination is 16th July 2016


Higher Teachers’ Certificate (HTC) Primary

  • Hold a Primary Teachers' Certificate or Early Childhood Development Certificate from Gambia College or any other recognised teacher training institution with a CGPA of at least 3.0
  • Hold three (3) WASSCE/GCE 'O' Level including English

Early Childhood Development

Applicants MUST possess one of the following:

  • Minimum of two credits and two passes
  • Minimum of two (2) credits and two passes SC/ GCE 'O' Level

Applicants with four credits at Secondary Four or its equivalent can apple - Such candidates must have a minimum teaching experience of at least 5 years with a strong recommendation from a recognised ECD.

All applicants should please note that an entrance examination will be conducted and only those with the cut off mark would be invited for an interview.

All applicants to the ECD programme should kindly note that the Entrance Examination for the ECD is scheduled for the 9th July 2016

All applicants to the ECD programme must note that the ECD is a fee paying programme and the fees are D6000.00 per annum. Upon acceptance, applicants will have to pay the fees before registration.

Minimum Qualifications for School Of Nursing and Midwifery

The Ministry of Health & Social Welfare through its Directorate of Planning and Information has secured funding from the Global Fund under the New Funding Model to accelerate gains made in the fight against Tuberculosis, Malaria and HIV/AIDS as well as overall Strengthening of the National Health System. As part of activities identified under this grant, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare is required to train Registered Nurses and Higher National Diploma (HND) Midwifery. Prospective candidates under this grant MUST meet the following entry requirements:

REGISTERED NURSE (Minimum entry requirement)

  • General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE O’ Levels) 5 credits which must include English, Science and (3) three other academic subjects.
  • OR
  • West African Senior Secondary School Certificate of Education (WASSCE) 4 credits which must include English, Science and (2) two other academic subjects
  • Must be willing to sign a bond to work for at least 6 years upon completion with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare

HND MIDWIFERY (Minimum entry requirement)

  • Must have obtained an RN General Certificate.
  • Must have practiced for at least 2 years with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare
  • Must be ready to sign a bond to serve the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for at least 4 years upon completion.
